This park was okay, but I was expecting better from the previous reviews. First, the premium sites that were "on the lake" were not exactly so. Yes, some of them backed up to the lake, but there was a steep incline between us and the lake, and you could not swim in the area where we were at (It was a big wall, and you could fish, but it would have been nearly impossible to get in and out of the water to swim). In fact, there was no designated swimming area at all in the state park (they told me it was "swim at your own risk" so we didn't), and the pool cost $3 per person to get in (it's privately owned, not part of the state park). Also, the sites were very heavily wooded, so getting in and out of them (even with our just 29' trailer) was challenging. It was entertaining to watch a couple with about a 35' motor home try to manuever into one of the sites. All the sites are back in, and you really have to be careful of the trees. Overall this park was okay, but we will probably try somewhere else in the area next time.
My understanding was that the sites were right on the beach, but they were not. They were certainly within walking distance (over a bridge over some dunes), but they were not "on" the beach. Make sure that you bring LOTS of bug spray, as the mosquitos were horrible. The inner loop sites have the picnic tables on the back side of the rig, while the outer loop sites have them right out the door, so consider that when choosing a site. Restrooms were fairly clean, but there was a line for the showers in the evenings, since there are no sewer hookups and most everyone wants to conserve the space in their tanks. There was also a line at the dump station when we got ready to leave, so keep that in mind when deciding what time to load up. Overall a nice enough stay, but next time we will look for a place with full hookups.
We stayed here one night, and that was more than enough. The sites were extremely close together, and were very difficult to get in and out of. The hookups were all at the very front of the site, so we had to pull completely through the site, unhook our trailer, and then drive back around to park the suburban behind the trailer. Sites for daily use were all gravel and staggered so that they could fit more in. This was mostly a mobile home park with lots of permanent residents and very few day use people. We will not be staying here again.
First of all, the nightly rate is just the base rate. They also add on a $6 per person day use rate that really adds up for a big family. Overall, this was a good park. The kids had a blast (ages 3-11), and there were lots of activities for them to do while we were there. Beware of hidden costs that add up quickly (such as the arts and crafts projects, ice cream sundaes, etc.). The putt putt golf area was very rundown and had lots of dangerous areas, but still usable with close parental supervision. My 2 oldest kids loved that they could ride their bikes all over the campground. My 4 year old was upset that the roads were rocks and his training wheels wouldn't work on their roads so he couldn't ride his bike. The petting zoo was not as described. The door was locked, and all you could do was buy food from a little vending machine and then hold it through small holes in the fence. My kids were dissapointed because we assumed that "petting zoo" would mean you could actually PET the animals! Our fault for assuming. Also, there was always a line at the registration building which also doubled as the gift shop. The employees seemed to be in no particular hurry and not in a mood to help anyone. Overall this was a great weekend, but there are definitely things that could use improvement.
This was our first time out in our new travel trailer, and I think it was a good start. The park was clean, it was easy enough to hook everything up, and the staff seemed friendly. The playground area was somewhat old and in disrepair, but the rest of the park was fine. My kids loved fishing off the gazebo that was right behind our site, and my oldest caught 12 fish!! (It was a stocked pond, but he didn't care). We brought our dogs, and were happy that they had a "Kanine Kamp" area where the dogs could be off their leashes and just run around and play. But be careful, our dogs are small, and they figured out how to scoot under the gate and get out. The park is very large, so there were several empty sites near us for the kids to ride bikes on, etc. The price is a little high, but I am hoping it was because it was a holiday weekend. Overall we were very happy with this campground.
